Awesome, awesome, awesome drawing. Great use of perspective and dramatic elements. Just a minor detail: be careful with the top shelf on top of the stand nearest to us. The end of it should be smaller than the end closest to the viewer. Other than that, amazing work! I like the colors in this one too.
Background seems like it might be more detailed than the character, though, which makes him harder to see amongst all of the visual intensity. Also, like Joe said, you're going to have to draw a lot of backgrounds, so it might be a good idea to simplify them. You could try doing the backgrounds in Maya, but then I don't know how you'd do those 'fish-eye' angles.
I agree that the background is extremely visually arresting and may compete for attention with the character. Perhaps you could darken it a bit? Beautiful drawing!
